From the airport to Costa Brava in no time!

There are two airport options to get to Costa Brava: El Prat – Barcelona or Girona. It depends on the part of Costa Brava you want to head to, for the south side it is easier to get to from Barcelona. The north side is easier to get to from Girona.

From El Prat – Barcelona, first you’ll have to get to Barcelona centre. For that, check our post where we explain all you need to know to make that trip go smoothly. Although, you may consider renting a vehicle to get to Costa Brava on your own and moving around the area freely. It is definitely an option to consider and a great one! The car trip is around 2 hours. There are several car renting companies at the airport, two of the most common ones are Centauro and Europcar.

If you decide to use public transportation. Once you get to the city, you need to go to Estació de Sants. There you want to take the R1 train to Blanes. Get off at the last stop or at Lloret de Mar and you will already be in Costa Brava! Beautiful beaches and tranquil towns. If you want to head further up north (to Begur, Cadaqués, Palamós and so on) you would need a car.

The other option is to take the plane to Girona’s airport. From there, you can take the number 602 bus to Figueres, which is a beautiful town in the country side of Girona. You can make your first stop there, to rest and have a nice family lunch. From there you can take the number 12 bus to Cadaqués, the home of Picasso and one of the most beautiful towns in Costa Brava and in Spain. If you want to head to Blanes and the south area, the bus you need is the number 601.

There are several car renting companies at Girona’s airport as well, two of the most common ones are Sixt and Europcar.

Travel 4 baby tip: we recommend you to rent a car if you want to visit Costa Brava better. If you decide to do so, remember to bring your driver’s license, passport, ID and your necessary permit in case you’re not from the EU.

Travel 4 Baby guide tip

Be aware that, if you want to get to the most known places within Costa Brava (Cadaqués, Begur, Palamós, etc.) you will have to make several connections using public transportation and it can take up to 3 hours to get to each town. If you are planning to visit those beautiful Mediterranean beach-towns, we recommend you to rent a car. If not, you can stay and visit more accessible towns within Costa Brava that are closer to Barcelona and Girona and are reachable by train: Lloret de Mar, Blanes, etc. They still hold a breath-taking view, clean beaches and tranquil atmosphere, but are more accessible.
